Rogério Ghomes

Rogerio Ghomes, artist from Paraná, holds a doctorate in Intelligence Technologies and Digital Design from PUC SP and a master’s degree in Design from UNESP.
He works as a professor at the Design Department at the State University of Londrina UEL.
He structures his research in the deconstruction of the photographic from keys such as the territorial displacement through the landscape and the relationship between image and word commonly articulated in reflections on existence and spirituality. Recognized for the use of photography as the central language of his production, presented in the form of installations, site specifics, and photography in different means of production and printing.
His works are part of private collections and public institutions such as: ABACT Photography Collection, Joaquim Paiva Collection – Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro – MAM RJ, McLaren London Collection, Pirelli Collection – MASP of Photography, Cultural Foundation of Curitiba – FCC, Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo – MAM SP, Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo – MAC USP, Museum of Contemporary Art of Paraná – MAC PR, Pinacoteca de São Paulo.
The Pernambuco critic Moacir dos Anjos comments in the introductory text of the artist’s book, ‘I need to believe that when I close my eyes the world is still here’ that:
Translating into articulated discourse what Rogério Ghomes tries to produce in his works is a task destined, moreover, always to relative failure. Not because it is a work closed to interpretations or difficult to understand. On the contrary, their images usually welcome almost everyone who stops before them, though never in an identical way. The reason for the difficulty is more to describe what, although implied in the artist’s photographs, is not visible in them, since Rogério Ghomes’ works often confuse what is expected of images constructed by a camera: they want to show at the same time who hide; say equally to be silent in the face of what they figure.
